What is Book Week?

Book Week 2016 is a fantastic time in Australian schools. Book Week is all about celebrating books and reading, and schools often include dress up days where students and teachers come in costume as their favourite book character.

When is Book Week 2016?

Book Week 2016 is held from Saturday August 20th to Friday 26th August 2016. This year the Children's Book Council Australia have chosen the theme 'Australia! Story Country'.

Book Week in Australia, celebrates authors and illustrators of books that have had a great academic impact on young children and young adults.

Every year since 1945, Australia has held a festival celebrating Australian authors and their books. The entire community comes together to honour Australian authors and illustrators with a nationwide Book Week. Children in schools learn about these Australian men and women and become introduced to their books in hopes of instilling the importance of reading.

Book Week costumes could be made from just about any story book character you like. Our most popular ones for 2015 were Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, the whimsical The Cat in the Hat, Alice and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and the Crayons from The Day the Crayons Quit.

We have a huge range of book week costumes to buy, so take your time browsing and get in touch with our customer support if you need some ideas or advice!
