Ten Party Games for Children

#1 Who Took The Crown?

This one is perfect for princess parties. It starts with the girl who has the party. She has a princess crown. She sits with her back to the rest of the kids (either in a chair or on the ground). She sets the crown beneath her or behind her (depending on if she is in a chair). Then, the adult present silently points to one of the other children. That child quietly comes up and takes the crown and hides it behind her back. The girl in front then turns around and has to guess who took the crown. She can only ask yes and no questions, up to ten questions. If she gets it right she takes the crown back and either does it again or chooses a child to take her place.

Sick of the same-old loot bags? Tired of pirates and fairies? Want something for young and old alike.

Then go no further than treat tubes – the latest in goodie-bag fashion!

We love these cellophane tubes which you can personalise with your own toppers, stickers and treats. They are perfect for Jaffas, Smarties,  Lifesavers, Skittles, jelly beans, licorice sticks and more, and make a welcome change from standard loot bags.

Treat tubes allow you to match the goodies with any party colour scheme or theme. Why not get the kids to make up their own  personalised  take-home treat during the party?

And they are not just for the kids. You can fill them with spices or herbs and attach a recipe card for a foodie gift, or maybe a treat tube full of $1 or $2 coins instead of a gift card.

There is really no limit to the imagination with treat tubes - as long as the items are small enough to fit inside and not too small that you have to get them out with tweezers!

Measuring 2.5cmx20cms, treat tubes can even hold pens, pencils, paint brushes, small glitter tubes and other craft supplies. Little girls will love them filled with hair baubles and costume jewellery, and boys will enjoy a treat tube holding super balls or small Lego pieces.

Use them for kids' parties, wedding favours (sugared almonds anyone?), Christmas gifts for classmates and teachers, baby showers, hens nights – even pet treats.

Discount Party Supplies has packs of 10 cellophane treat tube bags for just $1. Order yours today.

Who's turning 1?

Once upon a time, first birthday parties were a small family affair, where the child in question was fawned over, and might be lucky enough to sample their very first bit of chocolate cake.

These days, they have turned into major undertakings but the good news is, you can have a memorable first birthday for your cherub without breaking the bank.

Let's face it, first birthday parties are more for the parents (“Look what we did! We survived the first year! Yay us!”) than for the infant, who is likely to either spend the party a/ sleeping or b/ screaming (or c/ alternating between the two).

Here are some things to consider when planning a first birthday party.

1.    Timing: try to work around bub's normal sleep time, and keep the party short. As all parents of infants know, over-stimulation can be a nightmare when it comes to baby being able to settle to sleep.
2.    Keep it simple: No need to go overboard with food or games. Basic, allergy-free snacks for the kids and maybe a cheese plate (and wine!) for the grown-ups.
3.    Watch the budget: It's so easy to fall in to the trap of hiring jumpy castles, or getting a clown to entertain the guests. Trust me, this is the first of many parties for your child, there will be plenty of time to go big as your kid grows
4.    Scale back the guest list: Keep it to close family and friends – see above re infants and over-stimulation.

And once you have all the above sorted, why not try these simple but fun ideas:

1.    Balloons galore: Babies and children love balloons, so make sure you have plenty around for them to play with.
2.    A time capsule: Ask your guests to bring something to pop in a small container for the guest of honour to open when they are 18 – a poem, a special note or their memory of the first time they met the infant.
3.    Cake smash: These are all the rage these days, but you don't have to go all out and hire a photographer. Just put the cake in front of the child and see what happens – you can even take the photos on your smart phone. This is great fun for everyone (except maybe the person who has to clean the bub afterwards.
4.    Make a DVD: Ask the guests to record their wishes for child's future.

Would love you to share your stories of memorable fist birthday parties, and remember, Discount Party Supplies has all the goodies you need to make any party a success.

Everyone loves Minnie

Minnie Mouse may be 85 years old, but she is still a popular character for young girls reinventing herself more time than Madonna to stay current and appealing.

First appearing in with her beau, Mickey, in Steamboat Willie in 1928, Minnie was redesigned in the 1940s to become the polka-dotted princess we all know and love.

She's been on television, in the movies, on stage, roaming around Disneyland – even on ice. And now you can invite her to your house, with our Minnie Mouse-themed decorations.

We have everything you could need – and more – to host a Minnie Mouse party that your pint-sized guests talk about for years.

•    Table settings
•    Shaped helium balloons
•    Invitations
•    Treat bags
•    Blowers
•    Hats
•    Cake toppers and iced decorations
•    Tablecloths

And that's not even the half of it – we even have a highchair decoration kit for a special first birthday girl and a full-sized door banner, just in case your guests are unsure if they have the right house!

Even Minnie Mouse herself would be uber-impressed at the range of party goodies in stock that carry her image.

She captured Mickey's heart all those years ago, now it's time for her to capture the hearts of a whole new generation.
